So how did 2022 stack up against previous year's? The 411 fished weighed in tied last year for the top spot & the total weight of 1,033.06 lbs. was second all time high. Grindstone had the most fish ever to hit the scales with 99 fish & the second highest weight ever recorded with 285.54 lbs. All these stats are somewhat tainted due to the fact this was a 20 boat field (fifth time in 14 years) versus a 19 boat field. The total average size of all fish weighed was 2.513 lbs. which ranks 4th in the past 14 years. Mike Anselmo & Rob Newhouse won their second Head to Head Tournament in 2022 they edged out their first two opponents by less than a pound each then won by over three pounds in the semi's & a four pound landslide victory in the finals over team Simonson/Robarge on Wapogasset. For the third straight year the 5 tournaments had 5 differant champions Simonson/Robarge on Nelson, Durand/Leverty on Grindstone, Otsby/Olson on Round, Constant/Richert on Wapo & Larson/Warren the TOC on Big Wood. The largest bag for the year was weighed in by Ostby/Olson at 18.29 lbs. from Round Lake followed by Durand/Leverty's 17.48 lb. catch at Grindstone. The largest bass caught this year was by Morey Leverty a 5.03 lb. tank smallie caught on Grindstone which was the only five pounder caught since Larry Henck's 5 on Round three years ago. Steve Constant's 4.67 largemouth caught on Round was second high for the year. Gene Henck & his dad Larry were our Anglers of the Year & deservingly so their 74 point total ranks second all time & their 14 point margin of victory is a tie for the highest, they also placed in 4 of the 5 derbies so a very good year. These guy's are true HAMMERS here are the career records they hold in the circuit: #1 in total points, #1 in total limits caught, #1 in most fish caught, #1 in total weight caught, #1 in H2H wins, #1 (tie) in total money finishes, #1 consecutive 5 fish limits w/21 & their in a tie for the current consecutive streak at 10, Larry is in a tie for the most big bass awards at 4 & to top it all off these two have fished a circuit leading 69 of a possible 70 tourneys in the past 14 years (when record keeping began).
Another great year of fishing & memories, the tournament season seems to get a little long towards the end but with our long winters the guys will be chompin at the bit to get after it come spring. WINTER MEETING Feb. 5th see ye all there & good luck hunting.
